Chamonix (dpa) - Alexander Schmid finished third in the Chamonix parallel giant slalom and celebrated the first podium result of his World Cup career.
The 25-year-old ski racer from the Allgäu prevailed against the American Tommy Ford in the race for third place in the French Alps. A sixth place had previously been Schmid's best result in the World Cup. The victory in the knockout competition went to the Swiss Loic Meillard, who won against his team-mate Thomas Tumler in the final. Stefan Luitz had previously dropped out in the first round, Linus Straßer then in the round of 16.
