Frenchman Gaël Monfils wins for the third time in his career in the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier after his victory in the final,

Defeated two weeks ago in the round of 16 of the Australian Open by the future finalist Dominic Thiem, Gaël Monfils had come to reassure himself this week in the Hérault. Mission accomplished since the 33-year-old Frenchman won the ATP 250 tournament this Sunday by defeating the Canadian Vasek Pospisil, 7-5, 6-3 in the final. It is the ninth title in his career, the third in the Hérault city.

Gaël Monfils, whose previous coronation at the Rotterdam tournament was almost a year ago, did honor to his number 1 seed status, after a start to the match made difficult by a catchy Pospisil if not well ranked (125th in the world).

Monfils in the world top 8

Faced with David Goffin's knockout in the semi-finals, the Frenchman, who will gain a rank in the ATP ranking this Monday (from 9th to 8th), was able to kill the match during the second round.

Winner in 2010 and 2014, the Parisian took part in his fourth final in Montpellier. This tournament succeeds well in tri-color tennis players since in ten years, France has won it eight times (three titles for Monfils, three for Gasquet and one for Pouille and Tsonga, winner last year).

The beautiful week of Monfils in the south of France places him in the best conditions to go, from this Tuesday, February 11, to defend his title in Rotterdam, where he will challenge the Portuguese Joao Sousa (68th in the world).
