Marius Willsch has arrived at the lions. The 28-year-old speaks in an interview about his goals, football and the cafe-restaurant of his parents-in-law.

  • Marius Willsch (28) was converted to a right-back and has been a regular player with the lions since then
  • The Passauer is one of the season's 1860 climbers .
  • In the interview, the 28-year-old talks about his plans and goals.

Munich - Marius Willsch is the season's climber at TSV 1860 . Ever since ex-trainer Daniel Bierofka converted 28-year-old Passauer into a right-back , he has become an essential player. An interview about late happiness, humility and down-to-earth planning for the future.

Marius Willsch, how much do you smell that you've played in wrong positions for years?

Marius Willsch (laughs): I just thought it the other day: why haven't I been playing in the back right for five years? But it's better to be late than never.

You don't play like an unskilled right-back.

Willsch : Thanks. In the A-youth under Alex Schmidt I played that before. But now last August it was really born out of necessity. Herbert Paul was injured before the game in Chemnitz. I replaced it, we won - and we went on. I now feel very comfortable in the position , I don't want to give it up anymore.

What was missing as an offensive outsider?

Willsch : The goals and assists. My quota was simply not good enough. Now I can contribute my strengths better. My pace, my endurance and pushing from behind.

"I'm not running away for a few euros"

What did you have to learn?

Willsch : There was and still is room for improvement in the defensive duel. My advantage is that we have experienced central defenders. Dennis Erdmann plays on my side, he has his mouth open and organized in a positive sense. This is a big help for me.

How much confidence does the series of ten games give without losing?

Willsch : Confidence gives me less the number, but the way we played the games. We were always dominant in the draw and could have won anything.

Has your opponents' respect increased?

Willsch : Of course, the opponents also saw that we have n't lost in a long time and are delivering good games. I cannot judge whether they have more respect than before.

How far can it go this season?

Willsch : There is no point in calling any Harakiri goals before we have 45, 46 points to stay in the league . The ones down there score endlessly. Why should we get out the binoculars and talk about what's in eight weeks?

Then we talk about your new contract. Do you need binoculars?

Willsch : No, I am assuming that this will take place soon. I feel comfortable here and valued, have found my place. I don't run anywhere else for a few euros.

Your sporting goal?

Willsch : I've never played in the second division, that's where I want to go - preferably at sixty.

And after the career in the catering trade, as you can hear.

Willsch : Yes, I want to take over the café-restaurant of my parents-in-law in Schweinfurt with my wife. Everything homemade, right up to the ice cream. I can identify with that. The soccer business is too leaping for me.

The question remains about your nickname. How is it that everyone just calls you "Mäsch"?

Willsch (laughs): From kindergarten. One of them couldn't speak Marius and always said Masch. That stayed with me.
