Past the Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Meran is the access lake in the Stelvio National Park. The Martell Biathlon Center is not far away. The IBU Cup of the biathletes was last moved there because there was too little snow on the Arber.
A change of location, which Stefanie Scherer used very well. At an altitude of 1700 meters, the biathlete from Wall has managed to establish herself in the top ten in the second division.
In the sprint on Saturday, the 23-year-old finished eighth with zero shooting errors. "I'm not entirely satisfied with my runtime," complains Scherer. "I had some problems with the altitude." That was something else, because she usually always trains at a lower altitude. Nevertheless, the biathlete from SC Wall is very satisfied with the eighth place.
On Sunday, the relatively new race format of mass start 60 was on the agenda, with 60 starters competing, the first 30 of whom run to the shooting range after the first round, while the second 30 first complete a double round. "Sometimes that was a bit of chaos on the track," says Scherer. Until the last stop she was really good with only two mistakes. Then, however, two disks remained, so that Scherer was passed a little to the rear. In the end there was a solid twelfth place. "This is annoying because there would have been more in it," says the Wallerin. "But I was better off on the run."
The next races are already on the program. Back in Martell - this time on schedule. The athletes are already on the track in the super sprint today. "I'm really looking forward to the next races," says Scherer. After all, she improved to ninth place in the IBU Cup overall ranking last weekend.
