After a 93:86 victory in Frankfurt, TSV Oberhaching is back in the relegation battle.
Oberhaching - A sportily vital victory for the TSV Oberhaching basketball players in the second Bundesliga ProB. On match day 20, the men of head coach Mario Matic not only managed to get a big surprise with their 93:86 (44:36) away win against the Frankfurt Skyliners Juniors. After an outstanding team effort, the Kybergriesen also keep the race for relegation open.
The morale in the team after the highly unfortunate defeats in Würzburg and against Hanau was demonstrated from the start by the Tropics, who played in blue away jerseys. A bitter setback hit the penultimate team before kick-off. The injured captain and top scorer Moritz Wohlers could not participate. But the team was determined. In the opening quarter, a high-level ProB game quickly developed between two teams with strong playing skills. Eight changes of leadership hit Frankfurt and Oberhaching. After a 7-0 run by the hosts at the end of the quarter, the outstanding player in the game let the bells ring for the first time. Through a wonderful threesome, Omari Knox almost kept his guest team on line with the final siren at 20:23 and the deficit was in the frame. Especially the two US guys from Oberhachinger shaped the first half. With strong hand-offs, lots of steals and great build-up moments, Knox, in conjunction with the superbly laid out clock, John Boyer, ensured playful class moments. The well-positioned Power Forward Peter Zeis also made a particularly great contribution to ensuring that the guests really turned the game around in the second section.
After a 12-0 run, TSV led 32:23 in the middle of the second quarter. But Frankfurt's best, Cosmo Grühn, kept his colors in the game with sure hits. But the final argument at half-time was Peter Zeis. Far away from "down-town", he almost drew a threesome with the halftime siren through the trap. The district basket hunters thereby generated a 44:36 half-time tour. But Upper Bavaria is well versed in setbacks. In the second half, Playmaker Boyer limped into the hall due to a thigh injury and spent the second half of the game on the bench.
For a moment the Matic boys looked shocked. Within a few minutes, the guests had turned the game to 49:46 with their top quartet Grühn (22 points in total), Schoormann (19), Peric (16) and Begue (13). The mood threatened to tip over in favor of the Hessians.
But in a quick break, Matic set up his team and set clever new tactical courses, especially in defense. Frankfurt had major problems with the press coverage of the TSV. Co-captain Janosch Kögler now had particularly strong moments in defense and attack and led his team to the new lead at 59:57 before the final section.
In the last quarter, the match then became a veritable duel between its best scorers. Supported by a determined team and based on strong defense with an effective Chris Würmseher as a successful "guard" for the therefore pale Frankfurt clock, Pruitt, the immense 35-minute racket-racking Omari Knox unpacked his magic box. The shooting guard bagged 15 points in the last quarter alone, leaving even the omnipresent Grühn (11) far behind.
A special praise also earned Wohlers' center replacement Sebastian Rauch with important points and hardworking boxing with Miljan Grujic during rebounding. But above all thanks to the Knox Gala, the Tropics were able to gradually expand their lead and ultimately won highly deservedly. "I am proud of my boys and of a team that is not discouraged by new staff setbacks," said Mario Matic.
