Tournament of France: The Brazilians ready for their revenge against the Blue

2020-03-06T15:49:22.188Z

After their victory over Canada (1-0) in the first match of the French tournament, the tricolor players will face Brazil on Saturday.

The Bleues started their French Tournament on Wednesday with a short victory against Canada (1-0) thanks to a goal from Viviane Asseyi on a free kick. Dominant throughout the game, the players of Corinne Diacre, however, were not very dangerous in front of Canadian women below their usual level.

Thanks to this first success, the Blue ones took the head of the classification of this friendly tournament, in front of Brazil and the Netherlands which left in a draw (0-0). The French will therefore have to be much more effective in front of the goal against Brazil if they want to win the competition and prepare their qualifying matches for Euro 2021 as well as possible.

Corinne Diacre, coach of the France team, intends to rotate her workforce during the next meetings. "We must take advantage of this tournament to try other players at other positions, or give extra playing time to girls who have had a little less since the start of the season," said the technician. Eugenie Le Sommer "will certainly hold the next match, chances are good," she added. But who will it be associated with in attack? Answer Saturday against the Seleçao.

Brazil wants revenge

In the eighth finals of the last World Cup, the Brazilians had managed to push the Blue in their entrenchments until overtime, but it was the players of Corinne Deacon who won (2-1). In eight games, Marta's teammates have never managed to beat this French team and intend to reverse the trend on Saturday.

After eliminating from the World Cup, Brazil started again. The South Americans, currently 9th in the FIFA ranking, qualified for the Tokyo Olympics and resisted the Netherlands (0-0), defending world vice-champions and 3rd in the FIFA ranking, in their first match of the French Tournament on Wednesday.

These Brazilians who play in France

Among the players summoned by the selector of the Brazilian women's team, Pia Sundhage, three are playing this season in the French championship.

At just 42, Formiga plays its fourth season under the colors of Paris Saint-Germain. Arriving in 2017 in the capital's club, the Brazilian star holds several records: in September 2019, she started the 26th professional season of her career, she participated in her seventh World Cup last summer in France and it is the only player in history to have competed in all editions of the women's Olympic tournament since its inception in 1996.
