Coronavirus: Minister of Sports calls on 'fan responsibility'

2020-03-10T12:58:18.656Z

On the eve of PSG-Dortmund, which will be held behind closed doors, Roxana Maracineanu wants to avoid "any damaging impact on public order".

Faced with the coronavirus, meetings are linked to the Ministry of Sports. This Tuesday morning, for almost 2 hours, Roxana Maracineanu received most of the stakeholders in the ecosystem of French sport (federations, leagues, organizers, broadcasters ...) to discuss the measures to be adopted in order to participate in "the national effort "

"We have taken an overview of the organizational, economic and sporting impact of the latest decisions," said the minister. The results are not completely exhaustive but we have identified around 450 events of national scope until April 15 (Editor's note: provisional end of the application of the measures) . There will be almost 2 million spectators impacted, not to mention all the small local events… ”

What endanger structures that do not have enough solid backs to compensate for a severe lack of cash. "We are well aware of what it generates, including on small businesses related to events and sports shows," continues the minister. We send all the data of the associations affected, the places that host them, the companies that intervene in service delivery, sector by sector. Decisions (Editor's note: about compensation) will be taken later when we have visibility across France and not just the sport. We want to avoid that some are weakened and can be put in great financial difficulty. "

No free broadcast of PSG-Dortmund

In terms of organization, Roxana Maracineau repeated the rule of three which has been a reference since March 8: in camera, gauge to 1000 people or postponement. Recalling that sporting continuity was privileged. She also took advantage of the meeting with the press to send a message to the supporters. Starting with those of PSG, who will face Dortmund Wednesday night in the knockout stages of the Champions League in a deserted Parc des Princes.

"I wanted to convey my empathy to the supporters," she explains. And I thank them for the awareness they may have. I know it's not the same thing to play without your audience. We appeal to individual and collective responsibility. If access to the stadium is prohibited, it is not for nothing. The closed door is not our simple pleasure. Get together (Editor's note: outside) why not but pay attention to the safety rules. I appeal to avoid any impact on public order that could be harmful. "

Faced with this exceptional situation, the ministry asked the broadcaster RMC Sport to study the possibility of retransmitting the match in clear. The private operator has dismissed it. "This could be a solution but there are economic and editorial choices," breathes the minister. We can respect them but we can also make the request. We also encourage that the media can have normal access and even have priority in camera, that we can talk as much as possible about the event. The work of the press must be able to continue. "

Too early for the Euro

Regarding Euro 2020, Roxana Maracineanu refuses to look too far. "For the moment, we are working with all stakeholders on the April 15 deadline," she notes. Then it will also depend on decisions with other governments because sport has no borders. This consistency must be given, which is all the more important to guarantee sporting equity. "

On a personal level, Roxana Maracineanu is not worried about the first case of coronavirus in the government, which affects her cultural counterpart Franck Riester. "We know we are not safe, that we are moving," she says. I myself received a delegation from China two weeks ago, when we thought that the virus only existed there. We know we can be affected… ”
