The cross-country DM in Sindelfingen developed into a real mud battle. Nick Jäger (TSV Penzberg) did not let this slow them down. And after the race it got really hectic.

Sindelfingen - After the race, the agitation for Nick Jäger really started. After his appearance at the German cross-country championship, the Penzberger jumped in the shower to wash off the mud from his legs and arms - the race had been a real mud fight. Then it went straight to the award ceremony and on to Frankfurt Airport, from where the 20-year-old DLV squad athlete set off for a three-week training camp in South Africa. He had a silver medal in his luggage that he had won in Sindelfingen in the U-23 class.

TSV Penzberg: Nick Jäger satisfied with silver

Jäger had completed the 7.7 kilometers on an extremely demanding and muddy track in 27:02 minutes, clearly distancing everyone else apart from one competitor. Jäger acknowledged the strong performance of Markus Görger (LG region Karlsruhe), who won in 26:01 minutes: “Markus was in a class of his own today. Nevertheless, I am very satisfied with my silver medal after the DM bronze in 2019. ”The later winner had already clearly distinguished himself from Jäger after the first of seven rounds. In the end, Jäger had a whopping 21 seconds ahead of third-placed Dustin Uhlig (TSG Heilbronn).

For the other TSV Penzberg athletes, things were “rather mixed” in Sindelfingen, reported Markus Brennauer. The 40-year-old injured himself in the race of the M40 age group (6.6 kilometers): “With the first step after the starting shot, I pulled the back of my thigh on the left. Then I limped to the end of the first lap and then gave up. ”After that, he couldn't take part in the men's middle-distance race as planned. Over the 4.4 kilometers Brennauer wanted to play a good role in the team classification together with Lucas Herbeck and Tom Jäger. Brennauer's club colleagues ran “only” for a good individual placement.

The duo fought an exciting internal duel, which 22-year-old Herbeck (15:42 minutes / 34th place) narrowly won. Nick's older brother Tom Jäger finished 39th out of 89 finishers with 15:50 minutes. "I am satisfied with my performance, after all, I was only able to train very little in January and February due to a knee injury," said Herbeck. Tom Jäger said of his race: “I ran a little too aggressively in the second lap. I had to pay a bit for that at the back. ”

The senior in the TSV team in Sindelfingen, Hugo Mann (66), came fifth in his age group. The Penzberger, who finished after 24:18 minutes, was 28 seconds short of bronze over the 5.5 kilometers. “Unfortunately, I started the race far too carefully. I had a little too much respect for the completely softened track. So I had to overtake one runner after the other in the first two laps, which cost me a lot of strength. ”The victory went to Ludwig Lang (SVG Ruhstorf / Rott), who dominated the M-65 class with 22:02 minutes .

A further fifth place for TSV Penzberg was achieved by the U-20 team in the line-up Marvin Bertram (24:18 minutes / 7th place), Luk Jäger (25: 33/19.) And Colin Klein (28: 37 / 51.). Bertram (18) was fourth after half of the 6.6 kilometers. “I got side stitches in the third round. That's why I couldn't go to my limit today, ”said the Bavarian cross-country champion. Luk Jäger (17) had stomach problems from the first round: “I have no idea why I felt sick immediately. It was really grueling. That is why I am not at all satisfied with my 19th place. ”The conclusion for Klein (16) was more positive: the 800-meter specialist ran a constant race and thus contributed significantly to the good team result.

This is also interesting:

Bronze three times for the Penzberg Ski Club - The senior ski racers of the SC Penzberg are always good for medals. They also proved this at the Masters DM, which was held in Hochfügen, Austria.

Julia Rath storms to European bronze medal - The performance was strong: Julia Rath (15) won bronze at the U-20-DM in Neubrandenburg over 1500 meters. The Penzbergerin is happy about it - but already has another major event in mind.

Oberland Challenge again offers a lot of variety - The "Raiffeisen Oberland Challenge" is the largest event of its kind in Bavaria. This year an interesting mix of races awaits the participants.
