The Orange County of California has determined that starting this year, August 24 will be dedicated to the memory of Kobe Bryant. As you may recall, a former Los Angeles Lakers star was killed along with his daughter and six other passengers in a helicopter crash in January this year. The day in Kobe's memory will be held the day after his birthday, which falls on August 23, and will be celebrated on the 24th of the month, asked of course the two numbers (24 and 8) most identified with the NBA legend who passed away in tragic circumstances.

County Council Chairman Michelle Steele explained the decision, which was made after a vote: "This is a dear and beloved member of our community, who has inspired so many women and men and made them pursue their dreams and never give up."

District Superintendent Don Wagner also referred to the less flattering moments in Kobe's career, including an implicit reference to the rape case in which he was charged in 2003: "Like all of us, Kobi faced challenges that he created himself, and also those that life threw at him, which he overcame. Today, or celebrate the effort to overcome those challenges."
