Italy's runner-up Inter Milan followed Sevilla FC into the Europa League final. The team of coach Antonio Conte prevailed on Monday evening in the second semi-final against the Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk deservedly 5-0 (1-0). The double goalscorers Lautaro Martinez (19th / 74th minute) and Romelu Lukaku (78th / 84th) and Danilo D'Ambrosio (64th) scored the goals for the northern Italians in Düsseldorf.

The final of the eight-man tournament in North Rhine-Westphalia will take place next Friday (9 p.m.) in Cologne. There Inter will meet Sevilla FC, who beat Manchester United 2-1 (1-1) on Sunday evening. Both finalists first started in the Champions League in the European Cup and were relegated third in the group. Both clubs have already won the previous competition and both have met German opponents. The Milanese beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

Inter was last internationally successful in 2010 when they won the Champions League final against Bayern Munich. A fresh title could also increase the chances of drawing superstar Lionel Messi to Milan. The six-time world footballer has already bought a penthouse in Milan, media reports said - Messi does not see his future with FC Barcelona, which was recently declassed by FC Bayern.
