Munich (AP) - Bayern Munich's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is hoping for the Prime Minister's consultations with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) for positive signals for fans to return to the stadiums.
"There is a football culture and this football culture naturally includes emotion and atmosphere in the stadium. That simply does not exist without spectators. That is why we must all have a great interest in ensuring that spectators are allowed back into the stadium as soon as possible," advertised Rummenigge (64) on "Bild".
The minister-presidents of the federal states are likely to speak to Chancellor Merkel about the fan issue in a video conference on Thursday. So far, no spectators have been allowed in the stadiums during the Corona crisis. "Of course we are not naive and we know that we at Bayern Munich will not let 75,000 spectators into the stadium," said Rummenigge. "Perhaps 15 to 20 percent of the spectators who have a stadium seating capacity" thinks it is possible "to bring in some atmosphere and some emotionality again."
Rummenigge campaigned for confidence in politics. "There has to be some football culture back in the stadiums and that of course includes spectators. I think we can do that," he said, referring to the first Corona emergency concept with which the season could be played at the end. "Our viewers can also handle it very seriously," assured the CEO of the triple winner. "It's important to be trusted."
Rummenigge was also open to possible improvements to the concept with spectators in the stadiums. "We are ready for it, we are able to do it, we are not arrogant," he said.
