There wasn't much going on on the third day of the tour.

The main field remained largely closed - and did not become restless when three French break away

Marcel Kittel, former racing cyclist

"You often ask yourself: Why are we doing this? They could sit relaxed in the field and not struggle in the wind on their own. There are various reasons why the teams there say

:

Mr. Jungs, attacked, wanted to go with me. On the one hand, of course, for the French, it's great to be in front of the field as an outlier, to be visible. That's great for the sponsors. "

There were also some points to collect for the mountain classification very early in the tour.

Three mountains of the third category and one of the fourth category had to be conquered.

Marcel Kittel, former racing cyclist

"

The points are important for the next few days. If you build up the lead there, then you can keep the mountain jersey for a long time before the really high mountains hit. And that was one reason why the The guys tried it today. In the end it worked for the Cosnefroy from AG2R, who now has the mountain jersey and will wear it for the next few days.

"

At the finish in Sisteron, the Australian Caleb Ewan was the fastest driver.

But Julian Alaphilippe continues in yellow.

Marcel Kittel, former racing cyclist

"

He is a super likeable guy who has won the hearts of the French

last year with 14 days in the yellow jersey at the 2019 Tour de France. And now he's back in 2020 to continue that. And I think he will try just like last year, as long as he can, to stick with it. At the end of the 2020 tour there will be the difficult stages.

Yellow jersey, mountain jersey - the green jersey of the best in points is missing.

This was secured by Peter Sagan from the German team Bora-hansgrohe.

Sagan has already carried green to Paris seven times.

Marcel Kittel, former racing cyclist

"And that often shows that there is not the fastest, but actually the most versatile in the end, or, to put it another way, the sprinter

who

can climb one of the best, who also sometimes in

the breakaway group can then collect points from the beginning in the intermediate evaluations.

I know from my own career that as the best sprinter you win most of the stages, but still have no chance in the fight for the green jersey because Peter Sagan is just so versatile.

Dder drives long mountains where the pure sprinters, like me or a Calep Ewan, have no chance at all to get there again and score points. "

."

Today's fourth stage covers 160 kilometers - with a mountain of the first category as the finish line.

There are not too great challenges waiting for the drivers.

Marcel Kittel, former racing cyclist

"I believe that the field will be closed up there into the last mountain. And then the ranking riders will try a little, test a little and see who is maybe tired, who has a little difficulty and just let's see how it goes. But I don't think it's going to be an all-important classification day. "

In the overall standings, Juan Alaphilippe is four seconds ahead of Adam Yates.

But the residues are still very low.

Even the German Emanuel Buchmann, who is not listed in the top ten, only has 17 seconds on Alaphilippe.
