Alexey Lutsenko won the sixth stage of the Tour de France.

On the second mountain arrival from Le Teil up to Mont Aigoual, he pulled away from the peloton in a breakaway group and won ahead of the Spaniard Jesus Herrada and the Belgian Greg van Avermaet.

It is the first Tour stage win for the 27-year-old Lutsenko.

The yellow jersey of the overall winner was defended by the Briton Adam Yates.

The driver from Team Mitchelton-Scott took the lead on Wednesday after the previous leader Julian Alaphilippe had received a time penalty.

Yates is three seconds ahead of the Slovenian Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic.

The best German rider, Emanuel Buchmann, crossed the finish line with the top favorites in the peloton.

On Friday, the seventh stage (1:25 p.m., live ticker SPIEGEL.de, TV: Das Erste, Eurosport) over flat terrain.

On the way from Millau to Lavaur over 168 kilometers only two mountains of the third and one of the fourth category have to be conquered.

So the sprinters around Caleb Ewan and Sam Bennett could have a good chance of a mass arrival.
