The British Boxing Council announced today the death of Alan Minter, former world middleweight boxing champion, at the age of 69.

Reuters reported that Minter died of cancer.

Minter won the bronze medal in the 1972 Munich Olympics and won his world title in professional boxing in Las Vegas in 1980 after beating Italian American Vito Antofermo after a controversial match and retiring after winning 39 victories and nine defeats.
