Marc Hirschi from the German team Sunweb won the longest stage of the 107th Tour de France after attempting to break away.
The 22-year-old Swiss prevailed on the twelfth stage over 218 kilometers from Chauvigny to Sarran Corrèze ahead of Pierre Rolland (B&B Hotels) and Sören Kragh Andersen (Team Sunweb).
Primoz Roglic defended the yellow jersey.
Hirschi attacked before the last mountain classification on Suc au May and took the lead alone.
On a solo ride of around 30 kilometers, Hirschi defended his lead of around 40 seconds and crossed the finish line alone.
As the best German, Maximilian Schachmann (Berlin / Bora-hansgrohe) came in sixth.
The top favorites are challenged again on Friday when a total of seven mountain classifications await in the Massif Central with an altitude of 4400 meters on the 13th stage over 191.5 kilometers from Châtel-Guyon to Puy Mary Cantal.
The destination is 1589 meters above sea level.
