The Euroleague season has barely begun, and the Corona virus is already threatening to continue.
After it became clear last night (Saturday) that Barcelona coach Sharonas Jasikevicius, assistant Darius Mascolionas and three CSKA Moscow players Nikola Milutinov, Yannis Sterniks and Mark Antonov were positive, question marks surrounding the format planned for the upcoming season are increasing. The Euroleague is in no hurry to adopt the American concept, and it seems that as in the European football enterprises, it intends to try to continue as normal an activity as possible alongside dealing with the virus.
As part of the Corolla protocol established by the Euroleague before the start of the season, it was decided that the games will take place as long as a team can have a staff of eight or eight healthy players - whether they are senior or not.
In case a team is unable to meet this threshold, it may incur a technical loss.
This means that unlike last season, the Euroleague is determined to bring the season to a decision, with all the difficulties that are expected along the way.
The groups undergo two corona tests a week as part of the protocol, but the plan to continue moving the groups between countries across the continent without taking into account the health hazards involved seems a bit pretentious.
Secretary General of the Euroleague Jordi Brtomao admitted in a prepared bubble build infrastructure already Euroleague teams last season, but the plan was never implemented because three or four groups were not allowed to leave their country in the first wave of pandemic (Maccabi Tel Aviv them).

Either way, even if the Euroleague sees the bubble as a last resort, it could face difficult bureaucratic difficulties.
To join the Euroleague bubble, the participating teams will have to abandon the local leagues - which will require extraordinary coordination and extensive agreements, which they are unlikely to be able to reach.
For Maccabi Tel Aviv, which is currently competing in only one frame with a cloud hovering over the 2020/21 season in the Premier League, the situation may be a little less problematic, on the face of it, but the Yellows may also have difficulty reaching an agreement with the league and other teams. If the Euroleague does adopt the bubble concept, it will likely be forced to present an abbreviated format for the season, and it is still unclear what it will look like.

Another question is whether a bubble will indeed exist, where it will be located.
According to estimates, the Euroleague pre-season tournaments held in Kaunas and Valencia were a kind of general return to the real thing.
They are currently considered as the two main candidates to host the bubble, if such is indeed needed.
