VfB Stuttgart won again for the first time in five games.
In the 2-1 (1-0) win at Werder Bremen, Silas Wamangituka first scored the lead (31st minute), then the preliminary decision (90th + 1) with a penalty.
Davie Selke only managed the connection goal (90 + 3).
Both teams had struggled with negative series before the game.
Werder won on the third matchday, Stuttgart on the fifth matchday.
You didn't notice this in the game at first, both teams acted offensively in the first half.
Werder made a slightly better start.
After preparatory work by Josh Sargent, Yuya Osako came free in front of Stuttgart's goal, but put the ball from the edge of the penalty area well over it (5th minute).
Then Stuttgart took control of the game, Werder goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka first had to parry against Wamangituka (13th), then against Borna Sosa (14th).
This was how the guests' lead had been indicated, even if a penalty was needed: In a Stuttgart switching situation, the Bremen defensive was too passive, Tanguy Coulibaly pulled from the left wing into the center without countering.
The allied Wataru Endo was violently fouled by Tahith Chong in the sixteenth;
Wamangituka transformed (31st).
In the second round Werder increased the risk, with Davie Selke and Nick Woltemade two tall offensive players came.
But Stuttgart still had the better chances: Wamangituka missed from a tight angle (74th), Pavlenka parried a long-range shot by substitute Philipp Förster (77th).
In added time, Wamangituka scored the decision (90 + 1) after a misunderstanding between Pavlenka and Ömer Toprak.
Selke only headed to the connection (90th + 3).
