BEV ice hockey chairman Frank Butz calls for a return to training in an open letter.

Meanwhile, a new regional league mode is in the making.

District

- Frank Butz, the responsible ice hockey chairman in the Bavarian Ice Sports Association (BEV), vehemently expressed his displeasure in an open letter to politicians and associations on Friday: In his "situation report" he comes to the conclusion that because of the more than a difficult pandemic situation - combined with the political decisions - "a whole sport is now on a cane".

Although ice hockey could not be identified as a "virus thrower", it was clear to everyone that the skate cracks had to make their contribution to the Lockdown light.

The interruption of gaming operations should be viewed as an "acceptable measure" with a view to travel.

"The decision to stop training, however, was not," protests the ice hockey chairman.

Andreas Sten, 2nd department head at the national ice hockey division Black Bears Freising, basically agrees with Butz in his remarks.

On the other hand, in view of the current infection figures, Sten has little hope that easing could come soon.

And of course, recreational sport must also make its contribution to combating pandemics.

Clubs have responded to the pandemic with sophisticated hygiene concepts

For Butz, especially in the youth sector, it is hardly possible to explain why school sports or competitive sports should take place, but not training in closed training groups.

From the point of view of the Franconian functionary, the clubs and active people reacted to the pandemic with the necessary caution and sophisticated hygiene concepts.

Ice hockey cannot be held responsible for the increase in the number of infections.

But Butz does blame the political measures for the fact that a sport and its development would be thrown back by years: If training operations are not resumed soon, a large number of ice rinks threatens to cease operations completely for this winter season.

The halls of the district league clubs Mitterteich and Regen (in a group with EV Aich) and the state league team from Trostberg (opponents of SE Freising and EV Moosburg) are already closed.

Butz is beginning to have his doubts about whether that interests the political decision-makers at all.

New regional league mode: Now the ice hockey clubs have the floor

The Black Bears Freising are happy that the ice hockey chairman can look ahead optimistically despite the difficult situation.

He recently sent a proposal to the clubs to resume play in the national leagues.

“We are happy when the BEV finds a mode in which a certain form of competitive sport can still take place.

This is extremely important for the athletes, and we would also support that, ”Sten may not give up hope either.

The clubs now have to vote by mid-December on whether the new alternative game mode would be an option for them.

Instead of the original two national leagues, four regional groups would be played.

Freising and Moosburg would be in Group B with Dingolfing, Vilshofen and Waldkirchen. In a single round with a return game, the placements would be determined from mid-January.

Then the first two would move into the playoff quarter-finals.

For Andreas Sten it is clear that normal training would have to run again for one to two weeks - otherwise the risk of injury to the players would be too high.

"But that's all speculation," emphasizes the Black Bears' 2nd department head.

"Because do we know whether the incidence figures will develop so positively after Christmas that we can get back on the ice in January?"
