The Russian team, Zenit Petersburg, ended their group stage in the European Champions League with a loss to Borussia Dortmund, 2-1, in their match today.
The home side took the lead with an early goal scored by Argentine striker Sebastian Driussi in the 16th minute of the first half.
In the second half, the guests responded by scoring two successive goals through Polish defender Lukas Pischic and Belgian midfielder Axel Vetsel in the 68th and 78th minutes, respectively.
Zenit Petersburg suffered its third and fifth defeat in a row in the tournament against one draw, and bottomed the sixth group with an orphan point to bid farewell to the prestigious European championship “The Champions League” and failed to compete for the third place qualifying for the European League competition “Europa League”.
On the other hand, Borussia Dortmund won the group's lead with 13 points and qualified for the Champions League round of 16.
