Watch the goal that absorbed coffee in Chelsea's cup game against Lawton (Sport 1)

A year ago, a special delegation from the Barcelona management went to Qatar, in an attempt to persuade Xavi to replace Ernesto Valverda as coach.

Past contact refused.

He has decided that timing is far from ideal for him, and he can afford to wait for the ideal timing.

He was not just a very intelligent contact on the grass.

He is a very intelligent man even off the field, and had no intention of burning himself too soon for nothing.

He did not want to be a fig leaf for the corrupt president Joseph Bartomeu, he had no desire to fail right now and get the loser label that would not be easy to remove.

So he continues to warm up on the lines and gain experience.

The job will be waiting for him.

A day will come, and Xavi will be the coach of Barcelona.

Frank Lampard made the opposite decision when Roman Abramovich approached him towards the summer of 2019. Maurizio Sari was on his way out, Chelsea were looking for a replacement, and her ultimate symbol was marked as the right person for the job after just one season as manager, on the Derby County bench in the minor leagues.

Lampard could also have refused and explained that he wanted to gain richer experience before taking on such a big challenge.

This would have been received with understanding among the fans, and perhaps even added to his credit among the journalists.

He chose to accept the offer because there are two significant differences between his case and Xavi's.

Without the Tsar, without procurement - an ideal start

First, and this is informed speculation, Lampard was not sure the opportunity would return and the job would be waiting for him.

Unlike Barcelona, where managements change and democratically elected presidents, Chelsea is a private kingdom of Abramovich.

The Russian Baron may not accept the first refusal and close the door permanently.

In addition, if Lampard himself had not leveraged the positive start to the derby, his shares would have been damaged, and he would no longer be considered a legitimate candidate.

Second, and this is no longer speculation at all, Lampard, unlike Xavi, believed that the current timing was ideal for him.

In light of the departure of Eden Hazard on the one hand, and the ban on making transfers in the summer of 2019 on the other, the threshold of expectations was particularly low at the beginning of the term.

The goal was to build the team gradually, to inject new blood from youngsters from the academy, and any substantial achievement in Lampard's first season in office would be a bonus.

In the meantime, he intended to take advantage of the huge sympathy of the crowd towards him, as one of the greatest legends in the history of the club and Chelsea's outstanding conqueror in history.

This alliance was only to be strengthened in light of his willingness to return home in the difficult times of the Blues and take the reins.

She was also supposed to keep him from being fired like his predecessors when the first crisis came - and Lampard knew best of all how easy the owner's hand was on the trigger.

New page after Sari

Quite ironically, the club may have cynically exploited this very consideration to resort to Lampard as a temporary, sensitive drug.

Chelsea fans have become accustomed to the constant change of coaches, and to the lack of any stylistic identity as a result, because each new manager drags the ship in a completely different direction and brings with him players who suit him exclusively (for example, Marcon Alonso of Antonio Conte or Georges 'Sari's), but the last Italian was already too much even for them.

Fueled, among other things, by the frequent criticisms in the media, most of the fans did not like Sari, or at least did not really connect with him.

The Blues also finished in third place and won the Europa League, his term was defined as a fiasco mentally, and the ricochets were also absorbed by those who appointed him.

The fans asked for something completely different.

The club lost its way and soul, and Lampard's appointment was supposed to give Lexicon back those exact words.

Because he may not have experience, but he knows what Chelsea is and what it is supposed to represent.

He is flesh and blood, he lives and breathes Stamford Bridge.

As far as Abramovich and right-hand man Marina Granovsky were concerned it was helpful to bring him in to calm the winds.

And it was even without real risk.

In case of success, everyone will be happy.

In case of failure, management can say, "We tried, and it didn't work out."

Abramovich's responsibility for Lampard's appointment is weak compared to his responsibility for Sari's appointment.

Blue Frank was actually the audience’s appointment - or so, at least, the audience itself felt.

The young people who grew up in the club integrated excellently.

Abraham, Mount, James

At the end of the first season, there is a consensus that this bet was successful.

Chelsea were not always persuasive and suffered from instability, but Lampard achieved the two main goals he set for himself - qualifying for the Champions League from fourth place, and a very successful combination of the players who grew up at the club.

Not only Tammy Avraham enjoys a positive season with 18 goals in all competitions.

Not only did Mason Mount become a banker in the lineup at the link, after getting to know the boss well on loan season in Derby County alongside him.

The young manager also signed on for the meteoric rise of Reese James, who quickly became one of the best right-backs in the Premier League and also made the squad - along with Mount and Abraham.

In the first months of the season, brake Pikayo Tumori also emerged as a big promise, though he surprisingly disappeared from the plans after the Corona break.

Speaking of Corona - the epidemic and the limitations that came with it had a huge negative impact on the manager.

There are quite a few coaches who draw their strength from the crowd, but Lampard's case is very extreme in these terms.

For him, the audience was the main card.

After establishing his status at the beginning of a good term, he was supposed to become immovable thanks to the fans.

But the stands have emptied, and the voices of support on social media are much harder to reach in Abramovich's ears.

On Sunday, in the cup game against Lawton, the fans hung - with the approval of the management - a special poster in his honor: "We believe in Frank. So. Now. Always."

She was very moved by Lampard, who admitted that he knew in advance about the plans, but did not change management's intentions to oust him.

Because in a desolate stand, even this statement does not receive proper attention.

The procurement campaign changed expectations

Also, Chelsea's extensive activity in the transfer window stood out against the background of the economic restraint shown by all the other clubs.

Arbmovich's acquisition campaign last summer was very unusual in its standards, and even more unusual compared to competitors in 2020.

More than £ 220m has been paid by Chelsea for Kai Haberz, Timo Werner, Hakim Zeish, Ben Chillwell and Edouard Mandy.

This

extravagance

has created very high expectations, in stark contrast to the young manager's debut season, but he is not at all was ready for it. Lampard tried hard to emphasize that Chelsea will not be able to compete for the championship right now, and that he needed time to connect all oiled machine, but the management had plans of its own - and is also the one who chose the procurement.

that's how it is in the Czech Leslie - one of the most politically complex clubs in the Premier League. The managers' influence on the acquisition is limited, and from the list bought Lampard personally asked only Chillwell and Mandy (without specifying his name - it was simply essential to replace the failed coffee). Werner and Zeish were forced on him from above, even if he did not express real opposition to their arrival.

Lampard simply did not fully know in advance how to use these stars, and to a considerable extent they hindered him in further advancing the youth. Zeish and Habertz? It is not trivial, and it is really natural that it will take time to resolve the issues.

His arrival was forced upon Lampard.

One bad month was enough

It would be ridiculous to blame Lampard for the slow adaptation of Hubbert, who missed the pre-season camp, arrived only at Stampber, then fell ill in Corona in a not-so-easy way.

In contrast, Werner could have been expected to fit in better.

The former Leipzig striker has given up on participating in the decisive stages of the Champions League in the uniform of his previous team, joined already in July, and stated that he preferred Chelsea in light of his talks with Lampard who explained his plans to him.

In light of this, it was amazing to see how Host Werner for an unsuitable position in the wing after just a few games as a central striker.

The coach had no understanding of his strengths and weaknesses, his self-confidence was hurt, and the business only got worse as the weeks went by.

However, despite the poor handling of the gifted scorer who has not been hit so far, Chelsea galloped to the top of the table until mid-December, and even successfully made it to the home stage of the Champions League after receiving a comfortable draw.

There is a reasonable basis to believe that with full and enthusiastic stands, the momentum would have been better utilized.

Without a crowd, the first stumble released a snowball that rolled at frightening speed.

With five losses in the last eight rounds, Chelsea have moved away not only from the battle for the crown, but also from the top places to the Champions League.

That was enough for Abramovich to say goodbye to, because that's what he's used to doing with any coach in a situation like this - and some commentators argue that Lampard has even been given preferential treatment in terms of romance.

Expected a different response from the players.

Public criticism against players did not help

In recent weeks, as the crisis deepened, negative stories leaked from the locker room began to emerge in the media.

Ostensibly, Lampard was distant from the players, completely ignoring some of them, and acting as if he did not remember at all how he was an actor himself, even though he hung up his shoes only four years ago.

Is it possible to believe such reports?

Everyone is allowed to judge for themselves, but their public statements towards their trainees have been blatant recently.

Lampard directly blamed his players for the loss to Arsenal: "They have to take responsibility. I am very disappointed with the attitude we showed in the first half. These are basic actions, have nothing to do with tactics. Either you want to run and help the team, or you joke and think you should not run."

Statements of this kind have been repeated in recent weeks, but it is possible that Lampard - who emphasized in his days as a player that the negative criticism contributed to and spurred him on - expected a different response from the players.

Clearly, so far the Chelsea stars have not expressed dissatisfaction with him, and the relationship with the youngsters has certainly remained strong even as the results have deteriorated.

Symbolic of the fact that Mount wore the captain's armband in Lampard's last role.

On the other hand, the fact that Werner missed Pendel was also symbolic.

His term is expected to be particularly short.

Thomas Tuchel (Photo: Reuters)

Will he return?

So now it's over, and the two camps that discouraged Lampard's potential can stay in their positions.

On the one hand, some argue that he should not have gotten the job at such an early stage anyway, and the fiasco was known in advance.

On the other hand, some argue that every coach - easy and symbolic as he is - deserves a fair chance to prove himself, if and when he accepts the appointment.

Justice is, almost as always, somewhere in the middle, and no one would know how this novel would have developed if a novel had shown a little more patience.

One thing is for sure - Chelsea have missed a rare opportunity to create stability and continuity.

With Lampard, unlike all his predecessors, most of the crowd was willing to support the lift even if the crisis had lasted much more than a month.

With Lampard, it was theoretically possible to try to build something authentic, with a unique Chelsea character - for better or worse.

If he, too, is thrown aside, then it will be the fate of everyone who comes after him.

Even Thomas Tuchel, who will now be appointed, will not last - in fact, his term is expected to be particularly short given his inability to accept authority and the personal history of conflicts with managements at clubs is much less politically complex than Chelsea.

Tuchel is currently selected because a German speaker is suitable for both new stars, but it is temporary.

He will be followed by someone else, then someone else, then someone else, and each of them will speak a different language and pull the group in a different direction.

And who knows, maybe - just maybe - Lampard will also get a second chance someday, if he proves his worth elsewhere, and is much more due to the task.

Then the corona will already be a distant memory, the crowd will be in the stadium, and the hero in blue will be welcomed with open arms again.

It can not be otherwise.

He will always be a housemate at Stamford Bridge, and no letter of dismissal will change that.
