VfL Wolfsburg remain unbeaten at home this Bundesliga season after their 3-0 (2-0) win against the previously formidable SC Freiburg.

Thanks to goals from John Anthony Brooks (21st minute of the game), Wout Weghorst (39th) and Yannick Gerhardt (85th), the Oliver Glasner team overtook Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt in the table and are now third.

In the past three games, Freiburg fell behind in the first seven minutes of the game, in Wolfsburg Christian Streich's team disturbed the opponent's penalty area with high pressure and hardly allowed any chances.

Wolfsburg tried long balls to quickly bridge midfield.

There were no shots on goal - but a standard gave VfL the lead.

After a corner, Freiburg's Manuel Gulde blocked a header right in front of the feet of VfL defender Brooks, who hit the right corner with his left (21st).

Keven Schlotterbeck had previously gone down.

The video referee checked the scene for several minutes but could see no offense.

In a later repetition, however, it could be seen that there was a kick on Schlotterbeck's foot and thus a foul.

Freiburg was just about to play its way more and more into the Wolfsburg half when they destroyed Freiburg's hope for a goal with a strong attack: Riedle Baku claimed the ball in midfield and passed it on to Renato Steffen, who in turn had a look for Weghorst, who started half left into the penalty area.

The VfL attacker shielded the ball against Schlotterbeck and completed it with the right outer instep accurately next to the right post (39.)

Aluminum here, aluminum there

The two goals concealed a little over the disciplined approach of Freiburg, which continued at the beginning of the second half.

Baptiste Santamaria headed the VfL crossbar;

a little later his long-range shot just missed the left post.

Freiburg coach Christian Streich predicted a physical game before the game, which it became increasingly, even though the Wolfsburg had everything under control.

A cross from Xaver Schlager extended Weghort's head to Steffen, who hit the goal.

But it was immediately clear: Weghorst had previously been sidelined.

Freiburg goalkeeper Florian Müller prevented the possible decision with a strong save.

Weghorst had been cleared by Gerhardt and came from a short distance at the second post completely free.

The game seemed decided, and yet VfL Wolfsburg stepped up again.

The goal came after a throw-in by Freiburg - Gerhardt only had to push Baku's low cross into the orphaned goal (85th).
