The former soccer world champion Sami Khedira is apparently facing a surprising return to the Bundesliga.

As »Kicker« and »Bild« reported on Sunday, the 33-year-old should sign with Hertha BSC.

Accordingly, the medical check-up in the capital is due on Sunday.

Khedira no longer plays a sporting role at Juventus Turin.

This season he had not yet been used for the Italian record champions.

For the time being, there was no comment from Hertha or Khedira's agent about the possible transfer.

According to »Bild«, Khedira will come to Berlin free of charge and sign on Monday.

Most recently, Khedira flirted with a move to the Premier League.

At Juventus, he still has a contract that is valid until this summer.

Hertha is in crisis and ranks 14th in the table.

On Saturday there was a 3-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt in the debut under coach returning Pál Dárdai.

Khedira left the Bundesliga in 2010, in which he became German champion in 2007 with VfB Stuttgart.

The defensive midfielder joined Juventus from Real Madrid in 2015.

He had previously played for Los Blancos in Spain for five years.

In 2010 he made his international breakthrough at the World Cup in South Africa.

Four years later he became world champion with the DFB selection in Brazil.

After the 2018 World Cup debacle, national coach Joachim Löw no longer relied on the Swabian in the national team.

Recently, Khedira had several health problems.
