The Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami became world champion in the giant slalom in Cortina d'Ampezzo and won her second gold medal after the Super-G triumph.
In an exciting competition on Thursday, the ski racer prevailed by 0.02 seconds ahead of Mikaela Shiffrin from the USA who was in the lead after the first run.
Third was Katharina Liensberger from Austria, who was just 0.09 seconds short of her second gold medal.
The co-favorites were surprisingly far behind: Defending champion Petra Vlhova from Slovakia landed in twelfth place, Marta Bassino from Italy as the leader in the giant slalom World Cup in 13th. The only German starter Andrea Filser came in 20th.
