Almost every rookie in the NBA experiences ups and downs.

In the case of Danny Abdia, the challenging part still seems to be ahead of him: in recent Washington games he has experienced a gradual decline in his minutes and numbers, and on Tuesday against Portland set negative records in minutes (11), shots (1) and points (2).

Unfortunately for Abdia, his position erodes just as the Wizards gain momentum and begin to produce a streak of wins, after a weak season opener.

Either way, Abdia will record an exciting landmark tonight (Monday-Tuesday, 5 p.m., Sports 5) when he meets LeBron James and the Lakers for the first time in his career.

The Israeli rookie will hope - or not - for a chance to keep the best player in the world who shares the same position with him, and is expected to play a large number of minutes in light of the absence of the injured Anthony Davis.

Assuming the game against Portland marks a trend, Abdia arrives at the intriguing game sequence scheduled for the Wizards (next week they will face the Lakers, Clippers and Denver, three teams with high ambitions) at a much less good starting point.

Defensively, Abdia continues to hold out - in the Wizards' four straight wins he may have played a little more, but was part of Washington's most effective five alongside Raul Neto, Bradley Bill, Davis Bartans and Robin Lopez.

Specifically in the game against Portland, Abdia forced 7 fouls on the Blazers players from 11 attempts to make in front of a basket in a one-on-one.

The apparent problem of Abdia is in the attack, in which it is less and less manifested.

In the game in question against Portland, Abdia received for just 11 minutes of delivery, which again raised questions about the nature of the role assigned to him by Washington coach Scott Brooks.

Throughout the season Avdia often stands in the corners and waits to get the ball, as he rarely produces moves on his own.

But is Brooks' use of Abdia really unusual compared to other Rockies?

Not sure.

Looking at the advanced stats of his teammates, the trend is reflected that many draft experts predicted long before the start of the season: Anthony Edwards, James Weissman and Amalou Ball marked as bankers in the range between first and third picks (which did happen in the end), belong to the first quality team. The draft, and their numbers look accordingly.

The second quality group that Abdia belongs to, on the other hand, consists of players who are given a role similar to that of the Israeli, at least on the offensive side.

This is how the Usage Rate of the Rockies selected in the first ten elections looks like.

The percentage of use is a measure that examines the percentage of attacks in which a particular player has taken part, whether in a shot from the field or from the penalty spot or lost.

It gives a good indication of the degree of involvement of a particular player in the attack.

Well, Abdia does stand at the bottom of the list, but not by a particularly large margin from others in his quality group, who were selected in the 4-10 election.

This is how it looks:

Anthony Edwards (Minnesota) - 24.8%, third in the team

James Weissman (Golden State) - 25.4%, third in the team

Amalou Ball (Charlotte) - 24.7%, second in the team

Patrick Williams (Chicago) - 16.2%, ninth In the

Isaac Okuro (Cleveland) group - 12.5%, 17th place in the

Onyka Okongwa (Atlanta) group - 14.9%, 12th place in the

Killian Hayes (Detroit) group - 18.5%, 8th place in the

Obi Topin

group

(New York) - 17.9%, 10th place in the group

Danny Abdia (Washington) - 12.6%, 16th place in the group

Jaylen Smith (Phoenix) - 16.7%, 11th place in the group

The 2020 draft cycle also meets forecasts on another level.

As some draft experts have predicted, it is characterized by quite a bit of non-lottery reality.

With the exception of Tyris Liberton selected 11th by Sacramento and so far showing signs of a potential star, more thefts have been discovered late in the first round: Tyris Maxi selected 21 by Philadelphia showing sparks, Emanuel Quickley selected 25 by the Knicks putting up surprising numbers, and Peyton Pritchard (Boston, pick 26) and Desmond Bain (Memphis, 30) stand out as good complementary players.

Either way, Abdia seems to be living up to expectations in the meantime.

Not much more, not much less.

Tonight against LeBron James and the Lakers, he will hope to bring about a turnaround in the trend that has emerged in recent games.
