The BLACK LIVES MATTER protest has become an integral part of English football pitches, with players from both teams - and others on the pitch - kneeling at the start of each game for a short period of time, with the aim of raising awareness of the fight against racism, discrimination and violence against blacks.

Among quite a few fans across the UK this act has long since exhausted itself.

Michael Hanlon, a London postman and Tottenham fan, recently said: "This protest should have come off the pitches in England along with 2020."

David Fields, a Leicester fan, is confident: "There are more important patriotic things that are worth protesting in their favor."

They are not the only ones who think this protest has exhausted itself, and they say they are receiving extraordinary reinforcement from Crystal Palace star Wilfred Zaha, who sees no use in kneeling.

"It already feels like we're just doing it on an automatic, no more," the London club striker told the British media, "it has no real impact. We need to do more than that. I have no intention of kneeling further at the start of the games."

There is no doubt that such a statement from a black football player is bombastic and places the most talked about protest in world football under a big question mark.

Zaha adds: "This action, kneeling, humiliating. We must stand upright."

Another identifies: "Why do I have to play with the caption BLACK LIVES MATTER on the back of the shirt. It just lowers the fight. People need to know we are kneeling just because we are obligated - for me it should stop."

There is quite a bit of justice in Zaha's remarks about the impact of the protest on the level of racism in the UK.

Throughout the current season, racist tweets have increased on Twitter and posts on various networks calling out derogatory names to black players, after a question was mistaken on the pitch.

Players at all levels, from the top teams and from the bottom teams, are exposed to this. For example, Anthony Martial and Alex Touanzeba from Manchester United were compared to the monkeys after their team was surprised by the Premier League table winner Sheffield United.

Although the "kicking racism off the field" organization defends the knee-jerk protest, Zaha promises to keep his word and concludes: "Until you take real action against racism, do not ask me to kneel down. Stop it."
