Magdalena David has been hunting for medals for TV Emmering for years.

The 13-year-old made it into the Bavarian team with her appearances.

Emmering / Pfaffenhofen

- Magdalena David is considered to be one of the greatest athletics talents in the district.

The 13-year-old, who lives in Pfaffenhofen an der Glonn (district of Dachau) and competes for TV Emmering, runs and even jumps out of the mostly older competition in the heptathlon.

She has been training for this for six years.

Even as a child, Magda, as the teenager is called by her mother, was always active in sports.

Her hobbies were soccer and ballet.

At the age of seven, however, she was "driven away from football by the many big boys," says Mama Jana.

So she took her daughter to training at the athletics community Stadtwerke München, where she was active herself.

Mama Jana became her daughter's first trainer.

Training once a week was still sufficient back then.

“I actually knew from the start that I wanted to go to the performance level,” says Magda.

From this attitude she became aware of the training methods of Mark Henne, who coaches the track and field athletes at TV Emmering.

“That's where I want to go,” said Magdalena David, who was eleven at the time.

So in 2018 I switched to TV Emmering.

Twice a week David worked intensively on her skills there - meanwhile already in the heptathlon, the "supreme discipline of women", explains Henne.

But she doesn't have a favorite discipline.

“Hurdles maybe, or shot put.

Actually all of them.

Except the 800 meters. ”She laughs.

Her trainer in Emmering also confirms this.

“Endurance is not yet her specialty,” says Henne with a wink.

According to him, David's great strength is her particularly good movement.

And weaknesses?

"She still has to learn to overcome her inner weaker self," says trainer Henne.

The highlight so far in the young career of the 13-year-olds was the Bavarian all-around championships last October, where she only "just barely" missed the gold medal.

In the individual championship, she then eclipsed all competitors: She secured first place in the shot put.

She finished second in the hurdles.

Remarkable: the competition was consistently up to a year older than the 13-year-old.

Your next goal is the German Championships in summer.

To do this, she currently trains four times a week.

“I've been in the Bavarian national squad since last autumn.

He's allowed to train despite the lockdown, ”says David.

Her bigger dream is to start at the Olympics like her role models Carolin Schäfer and Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

"But I know that I am still at the beginning of my career."

In this phase of your career, there are other things that determine everyday life in addition to sport - such as school.

But Magdalena David does not have to struggle with sheet music pressure.

She is in eighth grade at the Montessori school in Günzlhofen.

In this way, the student can devote herself to athletics training with full energy.

In addition to the training, there is also time for friends - even if scheduling is not always easy.

"Every now and then I have to cancel if they want to go shopping with me again," says David.

But she almost always finds time for her best friend, who lives on the same street as Magda.

They then move through the streets together, take lots of selfies or watch films together.

"And giggle a lot," adds Mama Jana.

She does "what you do as a 13-year-old these days," says her mother.

Despite all her successes in sport, Magdalena David is a perfectly normal young person.

The 13-year-old also has one career dream: a kindergarten teacher.

So it fits well that her parents run the Columbus daycare center in Munich.

David has already completed several internships there.

“I just love toddlers,” she explains.

In that regard, she is very much like her mother, says the student.
