Exactly one year ago, on March 13, 2020, the decision was made to interrupt the Bundesliga for the time being due to the corona pandemic.
Since then, the players in German professional football have had to deal with positive, false positive and negative test results, with compromises, with hygiene rules and the health concept of the German Football League DFL.
They have to go about their job without people being allowed to watch them on site, they have to observe regulations about who they meet, they no longer give autographs, they can no longer jet off on vacation to the south or to their home countries if they earn their living as Brazilians, Czechs or Englishmen in the Bundesliga.
SPIEGEL spoke to national players Christoph Kramer and Matthias Ginter (both Borussia Mönchengladbach) and Leon Goretzka (FC Bayern) about the year in the bubble.
They talk about their routines, their fears, their longings during the corona crisis.
