Munich-SANA
Defending champions Bayern Munich qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals for the ninth time in the last ten seasons, after beating Lazio 2-1 at the Allianz Arena today, to complete their 6-2 victory in the aggregate score.
After his 4-1 first-leg victory in Rome, Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for Bayern from the penalty spot after 33 minutes, raising his tally to 39 goals in all competitions this season and ending Lazio's hopes of returning.
The German champion retreated before Erik Maxim Chubbo Moting, who replaced Lewandowski, added the second goal in the 73rd minute.
Marco Barolo narrowed Lazio's lead with a close-range header towards the end.
Bayern joined local rival Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals, while Lazio's exit confirmed that there were no Italian clubs in the quarter-finals, after Juventus and Atlanta bid farewell to the competition from the last 16.
