A lost stick, a task - at the World Cup in Planica, the Clara Klug / Martin Härtl team had difficult times.

The deal turned out to be quite conciliatory - and it was a sign of mental strength.

Planica - A little abandoned, as a photo shows, Clara Klug is sitting on a beer bench, in the background it looks empty and dreary.

Most of the superstructures that are necessary for the organization of a (corona-compliant) World Cup have been dismantled.

The visually impaired women were among the last athletes to complete a race in Planica, in this case a biathlon sprint.

But there was no trace of a sad farewell mood at Klug - she and her guide, Martin Härtl from Weilheim, were satisfied.

"Third place and flawlessly at the shooting range: this is how we say goodbye to Planica," the two reported on social media.

An emoji was set to show pride and strength.

The mere fact that Klug entered the final competition deserves respect.

In the first of three biathlon races, the 26-year-old fell several times on an icy and therefore difficult to drive trail.

Especially for the blind athletes, the conditions were on the verge of feasibility.

The woman from Munich had to give up the race with dizziness and was even hospitalized for observation.

She missed the individual, but went to the sprint with Härtl.

And Klug showed "that she can take such a shocking experience," said the national team.

After six kilometers and two bouts of shooting, during which Klug had brought all the shots to the target with the laser rifle, a time of 17: 46.1 minutes was recorded.

Only two Russian women were better: Vera Khlyzova (17: 03.7 / 1 fault) and Iuliia Smirnova (17: 42.6 / 1), who were outstanding in Planica.

Smart (time) advantage over the German competitors - Johanna Recktenwald (5th), Leonie Maria Walter (6th) and Linn Kazmaier (7th) - was clear.

Vivian Hösch suffered a strain when falling on a descent and had to get out.

The day before, she was third in the singles.

Before the biathlon races, Klug and Härtl had competed in the cross-country short distance and were sixth there (after losing a stick).

Overall, the German women and men came in 36 races (women and men, standing / sitting / visually impaired) on five podium places (2 x silver / 3 x bronze).

That meant seventh place in the medal table.

The top nations were Russia (49 podium places), Ukraine (29) and the USA (12).

On Friday, March 19, the next Para World Cup begins in Vuokatti, Finland.
