Less than a week after the anti-Semitic statements by their player Meyers Leonard, the Miami Heat separated from the currently injured NBA professional.

The runner-up gave the 29-year-old and a second-round pick in the 2027 draft to Oklahoma City Thunder, in exchange for Trevor Ariza.

The club announced on Wednesday.

The basketball player had insulted another player by saying "Kike" during a video game broadcast live on the Internet.

This formulation is an English swear word for Jews.

Later he asked for forgiveness.

"I'm very sorry," the 29-year-old wrote on Instagram: "I didn't know what the word meant, my ignorance is absolutely no excuse, and I behaved wrongly."

Several video game companies ended their collaboration with Leonard, who competed against another player in the first-person shooter Call of Duty.

The NBA had suspended Leonard from all team activities for a week.

Leonard was also fined $ 50,000.

In addition, the center has been required by the NBA to participate in a cultural diversity program.

This should help Leonard "to better understand the effects of his words," said League boss Adam Silver.
