Serious fall in the one-day race in Belgium: The German professional cyclist Jannik Steimle from the Deceuninck-Quick Step team fell at the Nokere Koerse in the final phase of the competition in Belgium, initially remained motionless and had to be hospitalized.

As the racing team announced, the 24-year-old suffered a split shoulder, a broken rib, a slight lung injury and a concussion.

The shoulder has to be operated on.

During the race, Mark Cavendish first fell on the last cobblestone section, but was able to finish the race in 84th place after a wheel change.

Just minutes after Cavendish's fall, Steimle's more serious accident occurred about five kilometers from the finish.

The Belgian Ludovic Robeet (Bingoal WB) won the race.

Steimle had received a professional contract with Quick Step in September 2019 and has since been part of the sprint star Cavendish team at the Belgian racing team.

Just a few days after signing his contract, Steimle celebrated his biggest victory to date at the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen.

In 2020 he made his debut at the Vuelta and did his first big tour.
