Is the regime in Belarus persecuting its opponents?
According to a report in the Reuters news agency today (Wednesday), the Belarusian skier, Daria Dulidovich, fled her country because of her political views and opposition to the regime and was banned from participating in the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Dolidovich took part in demonstrations in Belarus last month against President Alexander Lukashenko, who was re-elected in 2020. Demonstrators claimed that the president was elected fraudulently and by falsifying voting votes. It should be noted that Lukashenko of course vehemently denied.

In fact, following her views, "The surfer was banned from participating in the Winter Olympics in Beijing," said her father and coach Sergei Dolidovich, "I do not see the possibility that she will continue her career in Belarus."
Dolidovic is currently staying in Poland with her family and is considering her next steps in her career, and apparently returning to her homeland is out of the question for fear of retaliation by the regime.
