Kurt Zouma has been the subject of a heavy financial penalty from his club West Ham.
His employer, whose image has been tarnished, even announced that he had been fined "the biggest possible fine".
According to several English media, the French international would have been fined 250,000 pounds, or around 300,000 euros.
A large sum but which only corresponds to two weeks of salary for the international tricolor (11 selections).
The maximum fine a club can impose on their player is usually two weeks' wages, which in the Frenchman's case would amount to almost 300,000 euros in total.
"The player immediately accepted the fine and requested that the amount be donated to an animal rights organization," the club said.
This sanction is the result of the broadcast of a video where the defender of the Hammers hits his cat several times
In addition, an animal protection association has announced that it has recovered custody of the French player's cats.
