The Bordeaux management is nearing the goal.
In an unlikely turnaround, David Guion, who has been free since leaving Reims in the spring of 2021, will succeed Vladimir Petkovic in Bordeaux.
His name gathers unanimity among Girondin decision-makers.
If the financial agreement has yet to be finalized, the 54-year-old technician is preparing, according to our information, to sign an eighteen-month contract.
He will have the heavy task of ensuring the maintenance of a club stuck in 19th place in the championship.
Since the departure of Vladimir Petkovic, which took place on Monday February 7 the day after a rout in Reims (5-0), David Guion had quickly emerged as the favorite of a short-list which also included Laurent Batlles, Sabri Lamouchi or even David Bettoni, Zinedine Zidane's former assistant at Madrid.
Revealed with Chambéry in the Coupe de France
Guion fulfills the specifications: namely a French-speaking technician with a good knowledge of Ligue 1. Former defender in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, he repeated his ranges as assistant to Laurent Roussey in Saint-Étienne (in 2008) During the edition of the Coupe de France 2010-2011, then coach of SO Chambéry, he reached the quarter-finals by eliminating three Ligue 1 clubs, Sochaux, Brest and AS Monaco.
At the end of the season, he signed with AS Cannes.
He then led the formation and the reserve of Reims for five seasons (2012-2017), before being appointed head of the first team with very honorable results: promotion to Ligue 1 in 2018, 8th place in 2019 , 5th place in 2020 and 14th place last season.
He is expected to take office next Monday.
Jaroslav Plasil and André Monteiro, who have been leading training since Tuesday, will therefore be on the bench on Sunday in Lens (5:05 p.m.).
