The men of the VSG Isar-Loisach beat pursuers Holzkirchen (3:0) and Waging am See (3:1).

This is the first major hurdle on the way to the title.

Waging am See/Wolfratshausen - The VSG Isar-Loisach volleyball players have cleared the first hurdle on their way to the championship: At the district league matchday in Waging am See, the table leader not only beat the hosts 3-1, but also defeated the closest pursuer Holzkirchen with 3:0.

"That was by far our best game this season," said team manager Bernhard Wilhelm.

The game-free Holzkirchner compete in Waging

How the duel between the two title candidates came about on Saturday was strange.

In the course of the past week, five clubs (SC Freising II, TuS Oberding, Jahn Munich, TV Altötting and FC Kirchweidach) decided in favor of the new regulation of the Bavarian Volleyball Association without having to withdraw from the game with immediate effect.

Because TSV Hohenbrunn-Riemerling was not available for the match in Waging due to corona, the people from Holzkirchner who were not playing were simply invited.

Waginger service series to win the set against VSG

First of all, however, VSG had to deal with an "outside attacker problem" in the match against the hosts.

Because both Fabian Liemer and Markus Meinl arrived late at the sports hall.

The first set was correspondingly bumpy.

"Up to 17:17, both teams were on an equal footing, then Waging pulled away thanks to a series of serves," reported Wilhelm after 19:25.

It was back and forth in the second round as well, but after the 18:18 the game tipped over to VSG, not least thanks to some great actions by Korbinian Hölzl, who won 25:20.

In the fourth period, the guests had adjusted to the Waginger lobs behind the block and won - especially since the home side ran out of breath - with 25:12.

Steller Alexander Beck harmonizes perfectly with Stefan Richter

In the subsequent duel Waging against Holzkirchen, the VSG'ler could already get an impression of the strengths and weaknesses of the championship competitor.

"70 percent of all attacks went through Jannik Sambale," recognized Bernhard Wilhelm.

The reigning German U17 beach champion was skilfully staged by his father Christoph as a setter.

"We almost always put a block of three opposite him," reports the team spokesman.

The VSG acted almost flawlessly and won sets one and two with 25:21 and 25:17.

Coach Nabil Habboubi praised Steller Alexander Beck in particular, who harmonized particularly well with Stefan Richter (“he always released him superbly”).

In addition, the coach ensured permanent stability in acceptance with the alternating use of Julius Wilhelm and Tobias Adamek as liberos.

In round three, both teams gave their best again, but VSG prevailed again with 28:26.

After the schedule for the Ost district league was revised again, the volleyball players from Wolfratshausen and Geretsried still have five games to play.

Next Saturday, February 12, a single match against Putzbrunner SV (1 p.m., new gymnasium hall Geretsried) is on the calendar.

The showdown for the championship is expected to take place on March 12th in Holzkirchen, even if the opponent has even more encounters in front of him due to the crooked table.
