2022-02-13T11:24:11.364Z

After gathering almost 6 million people for the opening match against Italy, the Blues have once again generated a strong following

These Blues continue to gain popularity with the French.

About 6.5 million viewers watched the heroic victory of Fabien Galthié's men against the formidable Irish (30-24) on Saturday afternoon in a sold-out Stade de France.

A peak of 8.5 million was even recorded on France 2, the channel which broadcast the match and thus dominated the time slot with an audience share of 40.4%.

This audience is up sharply compared to France-Ireland of the 2021 edition of the Six Nations Tournament.

Last year, 5.8 million viewers watched the narrow victory of the Blues in Irish soil (15-13), which was then a record since 2014. A similar number of tricolor supporters watched the opening match of the XV of France against Italy (victory 37 to 10) last Sunday.

A figure there also up compared to the previous edition during which “only” 4.11 million viewers had attended the debut of the Blues in the competition.

A new record against Scotland on February 26?

French rugby players are returning to the statistics observed during the last World Cup in 2019 and could gain momentum during the last three matches of the Six Nations Tournament.

Starting with the one in Scotland on February 26.

Last year, the 23-27 defeat against XV du Chardon attracted nearly 7.7 million viewers, the best audience for Les Bleus in this competition since 2010!

A few days earlier, the Crunch against England had already broken a nine-year-old attendance record by bringing together 6.4 million supporters in front of their television.

More generally, the Six Nations Tournament arouses a certain interest among the French.

Just before the clash against Ireland, the meeting between the Welsh defending champions and the Scots (20-17 victory for Wales) was watched by nearly two million people, still on France 2.
