Aliah Delia Eichinger falls in slopestyle competition.

Later, the ski freestyler congratulates her grandmother on her birthday - but she's at the coffee party.

Zhangjiakou - Olympia keeps writing these beautiful stories, even apart from winter sports.

Mourning and jubilation often go hand in hand.

But in the end it all makes sense somehow.

Ski freestyler Aliah Delia Eichinger had a happy ending at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

The 20-year-old had just landed face down in the snow, but a short time later she was suddenly in a good mood again.

After her fall and a successful second run in the slopestyle competition, Eichinger used the big stage to wish her grandmother a happy birthday back home.

After Eichinger had at least completed the second run without a fall, she suddenly and with a smile held a small piece of paper in front of the cameras: "Happy birthday, grandma," was written neatly in block letters on it.

The ski freestyler's grandmother should have calmed down, because the granddaughter had previously had a bad fall in her first run on the slopestyle course.

But it was just a brief shock.

Eichinger, who comes from St. Oswald in the Bavarian Forest, got up and brought the second run safely to the finish.

The relatives at home breathed a sigh of relief.

"They're used to worse," said Eichinger, laughing.

"I didn't want to congratulate her after a fall."

It wasn't so easy for the congratulations for the grandmother to find its way into the world view: Because of the snowfall on Sunday, the qualification was postponed to Monday - i.e. to the birthday.

And then the granddaughter had to show strong nerves.

"I didn't want to congratulate her after a fall," reveals Eichinger, "so I just had to stand the second run."

And grandma, Eichinger found out afterwards, had heard the congratulations.

Eichinger, who finished 17th at the end of the competition, couldn't talk to her herself - her grandmother went to the coffee party without her cell phone.

"But I heard from mom that she was super happy, she can't believe she's an issue now," reported Eichinger.

Out of sheer excitement, Eichinger forgot for a short time how old grandma is now.

"Pretty young," she said.

Later she remembered: 58 to be exact.
