Paris Saint-Germain won the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Real Madrid.
PSG won 1-0 at home, was clearly superior and despaired of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for a long time.
The goal was only achieved in the 90th + 4th minute, Kylian Mbappé scored against the previously strong Real keeper.
The Belgian had notably made an exceptional save against Lionel Messi as he saved a penalty from the Parisian superstar.
Real goalkeeper Courtois had spoken of an "early final" before the game.
The fact that the game between PSG and Real, which are clearly on course for the championship in their leagues, should also get this drop, was not least due to the duel between the Belgian and Mbappé.
PSG started furiously, especially down the left flank.
Mbappé, who could possibly switch to Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer, always posed a great danger.
In the 5th minute he served Ángel di María.
But the Argentine shot over the goal.
A little later, Mbappé himself failed at Courtois (18th).
Real too conservative, Paris too harmless
Real seemed conservative and could hardly free himself.
70 percent ball possession for PSG in the first half hour testified to the dominance of Paris.
Real only became really dangerous for the first time in the 54th minute, Toni Kroos shot over the goal.
Otherwise, it was PSG that made deals.
Messi missed the most promising point, Courtois saved against the Argentine.
The fact that the missed shot had no consequences for the time being was due to Mbappé.
Manchester City are almost certainly in the quarter-finals and that was also thanks to a dream goal from Bernardo Silva.
The 27-year-old Portuguese, who once turned professional with Sporting's city rivals Benfica, hammered the ball in the 17th minute with a hard and precise drop kick under the bar, a technically outstanding shot that meant the 2-0 for the favorites.
Riyad Mahrez had previously taken the lead (7th).
The English leaders unsurprisingly dominated the game - Sporting, second in the Portuguese table, had knocked out Borussia Dortmund in the group stage, but were considered blatant underdogs against City.
Sterling even hits the corner
Phil Foden scored to make it 3-0 (32') after Mahrez's preliminary work, and Bernardo Silva increased it to 4-0 before the break (44').
Raheem Sterling scored from more than 20 meters into the angle to make it 5-0 (58th).
The second leg in Manchester will take place on March 9th.
To at least reach the penalty shootout, Sporting would have to win by a five-goal margin.
City coach Pep Guardiola has never lost so high in his coaching career.
The away goals rule no longer applies this season.
