Fifa has decided to replay the Brazil-Argentina qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup, interrupted in chaos after five minutes

Neymar, Messi and others may have to split an additional round trip transatlantic trip.

Unless PSG and the clubs concerned do not hear it that way, the Brazilian and Argentine selections having already qualified for the World Cup (November 21-December 18).

Indeed, Fifa has ordered that the Brazil-Argentina match, counting for the qualifications for the 2022 World Cup, be replayed, interrupted in the greatest confusion after five minutes in Sao Paulo on September 5.

The International Federation has not yet communicated the place and date of the meeting.

The initial match had been stopped following the intervention of the Brazilian health authorities, four Argentine players playing in England being accused of violating anti-Covid protocols.

Representatives of the Anvisa health agency and the federal police entered the field to end the meeting, in total confusion.

"After a careful investigation of the various factual elements and in view of the applicable regulations, the disciplinary committee has decided to have this match replayed on a date and in a place which will be determined by Fifa", writes the international federation in a communicated.

The Argentine federation immediately announced its desire to appeal this decision, through its president Claudio Tapia, via Twitter.

In addition to the game to be replayed, Fifa has distributed the sanctions, on both sides.

Reporting "several breaches" on the part of the federations concerned, the Fifa disciplinary committee imposed a fine of 550,000 Swiss francs (525,000 euros) on Brazil and 250,000 Swiss francs (238,000 euros) on the 'Argentina.

In addition, the four Argentine players in question, Giovanni Lo Celso (then at Tottenham, now at Villarreal), Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa), Emiliano Buendia (Aston Villa) and Cristian Romero (Tottenham), were suspended for two games.

The holding of this poster by the final tournament will have no accounting issue, apart from the fact of definitively closing the calendar of the single South American pool.

The final stoppage of this match did not prevent Neymar's Brazil or Messi's Argentina from winning their qualification for the next World Cup, without waiting for the decision of the disciplinary committee.

Brazil, leader of the South American qualifications, 39 points, before the last two days scheduled for the end of March, is four points ahead of Argentina, 35 pts.

The two countries, assured of one of the first four qualifying places, have already validated their ticket for Qatar.
