The top game between Urbani Rehovot and Maccabi Petah Tikva in the national handball league became an extraordinary battlefield yesterday (Thursday), also in terms of the industry.
It all started, ten seconds to the end when then a player from Rehovot Raz Ben David was sent off with a blue card (also removed from the next game) even though the game was over and Maccabi Petah Tikva was already celebrating a prestigious home victory.
The expulsion led to a riot among the families of the players in the stands, when according to one of those present during the riot, a knife was also pulled out.
The commotion in the stands soon spread to the pitch as well, with players from both teams starting to exchange blows on the pitch.
A few minutes later, the game was over but the commotion resumed again in the locker rooms, with players from both teams beating each other indiscriminately.
When this round was also over, shouts were heard outside the hall, and then again it was discovered that the players' parents were exchanging blows.
This time, too, the players joined in the brawl until members of management from both teams calmed down.
The game, which was a direct battle for a ticket to the Premier League, was violent throughout, and Petah Tikva's surprise victory, against the richest team in the National League that actually theoretically finished last night's chances of promotion to the Premier League, completely changed the picture in the Second Division.
It should be noted that both Rehovot and Maccabi Petah Tikva are not going to go over the events in silence, and intend to fine the players.
