The ATP 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro was disrupted by rain on Friday, for the second day in a row, and all quarter-finals were postponed to Saturday, with the tournament still set to end on Sunday.
The rains have already claimed many victims in several regions of the country in recent weeks.
They have often disrupted this Rio Open.
The clash between the Italian Matteo Berrettini, world No.6, and Thiago Monteiro (106th), best Brazilian player, initially scheduled for Thursday, started around noon, then it was interrupted when the Italian led 6-4, 6 -7 (6/8) and 4-3 in the deciding set.
It resumed early in the evening and Berretini only had to score two games to earn his ticket to the quarter-finals.
The late last game, between Argentinian Federico Delbonis and Spanish prospect Carlos Alcaraz, was halted at 5-4 for the Spaniard, then it resumed and the younger one won in straight sets.
He will meet Berettini on Saturday in the quarter-finals.
