A magic free-kick by Andreas Kostorz in added time gave VfB Hallbergmoos a 1-0 win over leaders SpVgg Hankofen-Hailing.

Hallbergmoos

– The first minute of stoppage time is running: the ball flies over the wall at what feels like slow motion and hits the top left with centimeter precision.

Andreas Kostorz is lucky and brings the leader SpVgg Hankofen-Hailing the third defeat of the season with his dream free kick.

The conclusion after a furious start to the year and the 1-0 (0-0) victory of VfB Hallbergmoos: The promoted team has set several bold exclamation marks and is therefore only four points away from the non-relegation places in the Bayernliga.

Even if leaders Hankofen-Hailing overwintered with a 14-point lead, the number one in the league was never the team that shoots everything to the ground.

That was also the case on Saturday in Hallbergmoos, because the guests first secured control of the game and then secondarily thought about the opening goal.

In the first half, Hankofen-Hailing had three great chances, although it was particularly tight when Sturm Kante Andreas Wagner headed the crossbar after a corner (23').

Hallbergmoos impresses with its fighting spirit

VfB took the goalless draw into the dressing room somewhat happily, but the team had achieved this first partial success with a compact defence.

Everyone fought for the other, Hankofen-Hailing didn't get the opening goal served on a silver platter.

In the game ahead, things got exciting from the Hallberger perspective when Tobias Krause tanked twice on the right flank.

But then he didn't find a buyer in the middle.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

After the break, VfB became more dangerous and had three top chances.

The goalkeeper parried a Krause header with a lot of luck, in the middle of the second half the ratio of great chances was balanced.

After that, the game tipped again, the Primus increased the pressure.

The Hallbergmoos footballers hardly had time for a controlled build-up game, in the final minutes it was 0:1.

But there was still Magic Kosti!

He was awarded his last free kick of the day in the 91st minute, having failed to do much with his set pieces.

The VfB leader, who had also cleared a lot against Hankofen, lifted the ball over the wall and showed that football can also be great art.

650 spectators made the stadium at the airport a madhouse.

Continuous fire after the lead hit

But the party didn't start with the goal celebration.

The referee played back six minutes – those 300 seconds between the opening goal and the acclaimed final whistle felt like an eternity.

Hankofen's goalkeeper joined in the attack, and Hallbergmooser were under constant fire.

Twice keeper Ferdinand Kozel parried outstandingly, once everyone cleared the line with each other.

The scenes matched the victory.

The important three points were of course lucky, but also forced with sheer will.

Coach Matthias Strohmaier kept his word: "We wanted to show the spectators that we tear ourselves apart 100 percent."

"We knew that we could score in the last few minutes." So the magnificent crowd with 650 spectators could become the norm.

Anyone who has seen this Battle of Hallberg will come back.
