Sometimes it's just not enough to play well.
SC Riessersee had to see that on Sunday evening in the ice hockey Oberliga Süd against the Starbulls Rosenheim.

Defeats are never easy to digest.
But derby defeats bring a few more kilograms with them and are much heavier in the stomach.
SC Riessersee's digestive tract has been very busy since yesterday evening, because the 5-1 defeat at home against the Starbulls Rosenheim didn't taste good at all.

Not because the SCR didn't stand a chance, which one might assume given the final score.
But because the white-blue were able to keep up with their permanent rivals for a long time, until late in the final third.
It was a respectable Oberliga Süd ice hockey game, also from the hosts.
There wasn't much to complain about.
It was a solid performance presented by the team of Niklas Hede and Christian Winkler.
Yes, you heard me right.
The youth coordinator of EHC Red Bull Munich Hede and the former SCR goalie and current team manager of the EHC represented Pat Cortina, who was infected with Corona, and assistant coach Anton Raubal, who was in Iserlohn with the SCR U20.
Ultimately, the SCR lacks quality
Hede and Winkler managed to give the white-blue a decent match plan.
It was mainly characterized by variability.
Sometimes they let the guests come, only attacked in their own third, sometimes the SCR annoyed the Starbulls with targeted forechecking.
Sometimes Riessersee tried quick shots from all positions and angles on the Rosenheim goal, sometimes they combined well into the dangerous zone.
In addition, they consistently completed the checks, the mileage and the will to fight were also right.
In summary: the SCR cut a good figure over long distances.
Only the essential was missing: the goals.
Conversely, the conclusion is that the hosts lacked precision in the end, the indispensable efficiency against a top opponent, the necessary bit of luck,

At the end of the first period, Starbulls coach John Sicinski was happy that his men were not behind.

"Our special teams didn't work," concluded Hede.
The air was out, the frustration ran deep.
Israel cleared the drinks from the penalty box with a bat, Rosenheim maneuvered the disc into the empty goal.
What remains: The SCR did better than before in the third top game within six days.
Really showed a good game.
But sometimes good just isn't good enough.
