Schongau usury of chances punished coldly by Kempten

For a third of the time, the Schongauers played their opponents against the wall and clearly led.

But they missed more big chances - and the Kempten team should punish them harshly

At the home game of the Bayernliga promotion round against ESC Kempten, however, a particularly large number of fans wanted to be there.

The 430 spectators didn't have to regret coming either.

The only drawback from the point of view of the "Mammuts" after an exciting and high-class game was the result. Despite a 3-0 lead, the home side had to win 5: 6 (3: 0, 1: 2, 1: 3, 0:1) beaten.

Nevertheless: "That was advertising for ice hockey," said Schongau's assistant coach Helmut Maucher.

Ultimately, his team's poor exploitation of opportunities was fatal.

"That we shouldn't have lost," said Maucher in view of the large number of top-class opportunities that were missed.

“The 3-0 lead after the first third was actually not enough.

And in the final third we left out a number of top-class players”, Maucher complained about the lack of effectiveness in his team.

Both teams with significantly changed ranks compared to the first leg

Both sides took to the ice with newly formed ranks from the first leg just two days ago.

"We tried something out in training and it worked well," said Maucher. This meant that the two foreigners, Roman Tomanek and Jason Lavallée, no longer played together.

This measure had an effect, as all Schongau ranks developed a decent goal threat against the badly battered guests, who had to do without Robert Lepine and Dominik Ochmann, among others.

Tomanek (1st) and Florian Seelmann (2nd) missed the home side's first two top-class opportunities.

The third was converted by Marius Klein with a low shot to make it 1-0 (3rd).

The EAS appendix was allowed to cheer again after Lavallée had demoted the Allgäu to extras.

The Canadian dropped four opponents to then make it 2-0 (10th), which is well worth seeing.

Tomanek almost succeeded in doing the same feat shortly afterwards.

He had already outplayed three Kempten players before he was saved by ERSC goalkeeper Jenny Harß (12').

The Slovakian prepared the third EAS goal for this.

Tomanek served his fellow striker Kevin Steiner with a backhand pass, who only had to put the disc into the empty box (19').

In the middle section, which became more and more confused due to the many penalties from the petty whistling referees, Kempten increased the pressure.

After a counterattack, Lars Grözinger reduced the lead to 1:3 (25th).

After a solo, Brendan Harrogate was initially denied by EAS goalie Daniel Blankenburg, who made a strong save, but then he was allowed to dig in undisturbed – and it was only 3:2 from Schongau's perspective (28th).

Schongau's coach Rainer Höfler then took a break, which promptly paid off.

Outnumbered, Matthias Müller steered a long-range shot from Milos Vavrusa into the net to make it 4:2 (31st).

Both teams then had good chances, but both goalkeepers could not be overcome.

In the final round, the home side then afforded a short blackout, which Anton Zimmer punished with a double hit.

Within just 33 seconds, the native of Belarus netted to make it 3: 4 and 4: 4 (both 47th).

The “mammoths” responded with furious attacks and a series of top-class chances.

Lavallée twice (49th, 53rd) and once Steiner (50th) failed freestanding to ESC keeper Harß.

Dominik Oppenberger, on the other hand, did better on the other side, scoring the visitors in front for the first time (53').

After that, the Schongauers attacked the Kempten box.

Tomanek and Höfler (both 57th) missed before Seelmann made it 5:5 on a power play (58th).

Once again Höfler, who missed the empty goal (59'), and Tomanek (60') could have prevented Schongau from overtime, but they too failed.

The home side's lack of coolness in front of the opponent's box was then punished by Mauro Seider in overtime.

Ironically, the former Schongauer gave the guests (62nd) the more than lucky additional point.
