Verratti, Leonardo, Paris and arbitration: substance and form

2022-02-20T08:39:12.468Z

MOOD – The Italian midfielder and his sporting director (violently) attacked the arbitration on Saturday, after the defeat of PSG in Nantes. Off topic.

Brutal return to earth.

Four days after their success over Real Madrid in the Champions League (1-0), PSG lost their footing in Nantes (3-1) on Saturday during the 25th day of Ligue 1 after a crazy match which did not have not finished talking.

The Parisians are indeed responsible for fueling the controversy by slaying the arbitration of Mr. Lesage.

Marco Verratti lit the first wick on Canal +, believing that Paris was

"fucked on by the arbitration"

.

Leonardo followed suit in front of the cameras of the encrypted channel, implying that

“the referee wanted to whistle against (them)”

and claiming that

“the match was no longer controlled”

after the first quarter of an hour, when the FCN was already leading 2-0.

To discover

  • Calendar and results Ligue 1

  • League 1 standings

The Parisian sports director had not finished.

He indeed provided after-sales service in the mixed zone:

"With the referee,

(Saturday),

we had the impression that it was '' boom boom boom, I'm shooting you ''"

, he said. explained, also denouncing the “behaviour” of Mikael Lesage.

Deserved victory for Nantes

Neither was however ready to attribute the defeat of the leader in the L1 standings to arbitration.

“Nantes deserved to win”

, acknowledged Leo.

Still happy.

The Canaries did not steal their victory, even if PSG largely had the ammunition to snatch a draw, or even better, and that everything was not to be thrown away at La Beaujoire, far from it.

Opportunities shovel in the first period, and again in the second.

Some nice moves, especially from the “MNM”.

Of envy.

But FC Nantes, ultra-efficient and protected by an Alban Lafont from very great evenings, gave a lesson to the Parisians in terms of excess of energy and physical impact at the start of the game, taking advantage of gaping holes on the phases of transition.

Randal Kolo Muani, Quentin Merlin and Ludovic Blas put Paris KO (3-0 MT), Neymar having reduced the score after the restart and before missing a penalty.

In the end, the Parisian comments sound like false notes given the match, the gap between the two teams on paper.

Especially since the PSG is rarely badly refereed in national games... In terms of form, it is borderline petty, the expression of the frustration of the "big" who has just fallen in with the "small".

Not class.

It might have been better to keep a low profile when hot, even if it means complaining to the competent authorities, far from the microphones.

If Leonardo rather contained his ardor, Verratti, he could be caught by the patrol and have to justify his remarks before the disciplinary committee, with a sanction at the key.

Mr. Lesage actually missed his match

However, it is fair to note that on the merits, the criticisms of the Verratti/Leonardo duo are well founded, Mr. Lesage having missed his subject.

We can talk about the extended stoppages at the end of the first period - one minute announced, six played - which allowed Nantes to score their third goal, the fact that the Canaries should have finished at ten if Dennis Appiah had taken the second yellow he deserved at the start of the second half (after having been logically saved from a direct red by Var before the rest), the many imaginary faults whistled against the stars of the Parisian attack or those who have been forgotten... There is also this dangerous intervention by Nicolas Pallois on Kylian Mbappé who would have deserved at least a warning.

“We didn't lose because of the referee, but he was important

,” summed up Mauricio Pochettino.

And the Paris Saint-Germain coach added:

“The two teams were not judged in the same way and I can therefore understand the nervousness of

(Leonardo)

and the players”

.

Understand nervousness, yes.

Words, less… And above all you have to understand how Paris, claiming the sacred in C1, could have been overwhelmed in this way by the madness of a mid-table team in the French championship.
