The Gladiators took four points with a rump squad.

Erding

– The Erding Gladiators got four points at the weekend.

After the 4:1 on Friday at ERV Schweinfurt, there was a 4:5 at home on Sunday after extra time against ESC Geretsried.

Thus, the team of coach Thomas Vogl still leads the table of the relegation round.

Erding's gang leader seemed slightly exhausted but not dissatisfied after the narrow defeat against the River Rats.

His 13 field players "delivered a great fight and did their job really well" to the Geretsrieders, who started with a full band.

In view of the unequal balance of power, it was clear to him: "At some point the power will run out." Overall, he was satisfied with the point, "because overtime is always a matter of luck".

After the 2:1 there was a chance to make it 3:1, but the puck went past the empty goal.

"If we make it 3-1, we'll win," Vogl was certain.

On Friday, his team not only made it 3:1 after the 2:1, but also the 4:1 and kidnapped three important points from Schweinfurt.

"It was a really difficult game that could have gone the other way around," summarized the Gladiators coach.

"We're playing smart, simple hockey right now, and I'm so happy we got back to our hockey."

However, there was one drop of bitterness: Wassilij Guft-Sokolov had to go into the dressing room injured after just five minutes.

He was absent on Sunday, as were Marko Babic, Lars Bernhardt, Sebastian Busch, Erik Modlmayr and Dominik Wagner.

And so the exhaustion of the team in the final phase of the Geretsried game was clearly noticeable - especially Philipp Michl and Florian Zimmermann, "The two center forwards had to play twice, and you notice that brutally." The game in Schweinfurt was just as tough as it was the Geretsried game, "but in Schweinfurt we just scored the goals at the right moment".

Vogl did not want to give a specific answer to the question of who would be coming back soon.

"I promise the next game will look better," he said with a mischievous grin.

Next weekend, the Gladiators will only play one game, on Sunday at EC Pfaffenhofen, and so the Erdinger coach announced: "This week will be a pure regeneration week."

There is no training on Tuesday, anyone who wants to can train voluntarily.

Wednesday and Thursday will then be trained normally again, but in doses, “because regeneration is the most important thing this week”.

For Sunday's game at the Pfaffenhofen Eishogs, Vogl hopes "that we can finally play with three rows again, then we will play completely differently".
