Another Schumacher in the Mercedes

In the future, David Schumacher will drive a Mercedes in the DTM.

David Schumacher follows in the footsteps of Ralf and Michael Schumacher.

Unlike cousin Mick, he is not yet driving in Formula 1 - but he is driving a Mercedes.

Munich – David Schumacher* follows in the footsteps of his famous father Ralf and his legendary uncle Michael Schumacher.

Like his cousin Mick Schumacher, Schumi IV pursues a professional career in motorsport.

Unlike Mick, however, David does not initially end up in Formula 1. The 20-year-old, son of Ralf and nephew of F1 record world champion Michael Schumacher, will be competing for Mercedes in the German Touring Car Championship this season, continuing a family tradition .

In 1990/91 Michael Schumacher started three times as a guest driver in the DTM.

Right at the premiere at the 1990 season finale, it swept away BMW title candidate Johnny Cecotto and caused a controversy.

And in 1991, too, he had two points without a point before he switched to Formula 1 with Jordan.

In his last three years in Formula 1, Schumi was again active for Mercedes.

His brother Ralf Schumacher went the opposite way and drove in the DTM from 2008 to 2012 at the end of his career.

In 52 races for Mercedes he took one pole and two podiums.

Now his son David follows him.

Apparently, like his uncle Michael, David will even become a Mercedes-AMG junior driver.

As a reminder: Schumi started in 1989 as a member of the legendary junior team alongside Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Karl Wendlinger.

All three made the leap into Formula 1 with Mercedes support. Today, the group's junior program is run by the sports subsidiary AMG.

David Schumacher "really shocked" after switching to DTM from Mercedes

David Schumacher has competed in Formula 3 for the past two years and is now switching to the Winward team in the DTM.

"There are worlds between the two vehicle categories," said Schumacher.

He is aware that he still has a lot to learn to survive in this racing series.

“Just because of the much higher weight, you have to drive the GT3 much more gently than the formula car.

At first I was really shocked by the ABS, I didn't know that in a racing car at all," reveals Schumi IV. "Nevertheless, I quickly felt comfortable in the Mercedes-AMG GT3.

He really puts you in a good mood.”

The DTM starts its new season on April 30th in Portimao.

Schumacher's team boss Christian Hohe Nadel is already looking forward to his new driver: "I'm convinced that David will bring us a lot of joy with his talent, his diligence and his team spirit!

He undoubtedly brings the perfect genes with him.” No one should contradict him on that.

And maybe Schumi IV will soon take the next step and follow his cousin Mick, who last paid tribute to his dad, into Formula 1.
