EV Füssen against SC Riessersee: One a promising duel, but this time heavy fare in the Ice Hockey Oberliga Süd.

The SCR shouldn't care, he takes the points home.

Füssen –

16-time German champion against 10-time German champion.

The glory days of EV Füssen as well as those of SC Riessersee are long in the past.

And so the clash between the two teams is often referred to as an old master duel.

It happened again on Tuesday night, but the game didn't do justice to the title.

Although the SCR won 2-0 in Füssen, that was almost the only positive thing that evening.

Pat Cortina back after Corona infection

It had started so promisingly - at least from the point of view of the guests.

The first 20 minutes were played almost exclusively in the hosts' defensive zone.

Riessersee took control from the start, repeatedly forcing the opponent to focus only on defensive work.

And showed what coach Pat Cortina, who returned after his corona infection, keeps asking for: simple ice hockey.

That's exactly how the 0:1 fell.

Florian Vollmer put it on Felix Linden, who picked up the pace and found David Seidl's racket in front of goal.

Simple and effective.

Final score after the first third

The wake-up call for Fussen?

no way.

The EV did not take place in the first third and had no means against powerful Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

They, in turn, used the same tactics over and over again: target low, run after, win target in the opposing third, finish.

Very simple.

The 0:2 also fell – including a bit of luck.

Alexandre Perron-Fontaine's shot was deflected, bounced off the board behind the goal and from there to Benjamin Kronawitter, who threw it in quick as a thought.

Not pretty, but effective.

Füssen desperate for Daniel Allavena

From the SCR point of view, things should have gone on like this.

But it didn't.

Instead, the white-blue seemed to have been infected with the sleepiness of the feet.

They, in turn, slowly awoke from their slumber mode.

The game shifted more towards the defensive third of the guests.

At least one of the SCR players stayed wide awake: Goalie Daniel Allavena.

The hosts fired on him several times, and the licensed EHC Red Bull Munich player was able to distinguish himself several times.

Attack efforts on the other side had almost come to a standstill.

The Riesserseer team only had the goal scream on their lips again when Moritz Israel shot with a superior number of players.

Weak final third of both teams

Section two ended goalless, as did the final third.

Because?

The SCR only did what was absolutely necessary and took the lead over time.

Now you could say: A good horse only jumps as high as it has to.

However, the SCR horse did not deserve the rating good.

A good team would have dismantled the weak Allgäu using every trick in the book.

Like last Sunday Regensburg with 9:1 or Rosenheim two days earlier with 6:1 or Memmingen at the beginning of January with 8:2.

Riessersee, on the other hand, ran the risk that tension could have arisen again.

But that prevented once again Allavena and the lack of precision from Füssen.

So this game did not prove worthy of the title old master duel.
