VfB Hallbergmoos was unable to continue its winning streak in the Bayernliga Süd.

In the end, keeper Ferdinand Kozel saved the 0:0 against Gundelfingen.

Hallbergmoos

– In the first half of the season, VfB Hallbergmoos was the shooting gallery of the Bayernliga.

Now they are preparing to erect a bulwark.

The 0-0 draw against FC Gundelfingen was not a step forward in the relegation battle, but after five games in the second half of the season VfB have only conceded one goal and with four wins and the draw on Saturday they are still on trend.

Even before the game, there were many indications that it would not be a football treat.

That's how it happened in 90 tough minutes, in which no one dared to step out of cover.

In the early stages, the guests from Gundelfingen had the game in their hands, but in the end they were only a bit dangerous.

And VfB?

Until the middle of the first half, the home team had almost no offensive actions.

Simon Werner misses Hallbergmooser leadership

However, Hallbergmooser had the best opportunity in the first half – and that with a counterattack.

A good 20 meters from the goal, Simon Werner ran over the FC keeper, the fans in the stands were already getting ready to cheer.

Only a defender came rushing out of nowhere and artistically prevented the actually safe hit.

When going into the dressing room, five half-chances from Gundelfingen faced a Hallbergmooser fast goal.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

After the break, the home side became bolder, but apart from a shift in the game, not much happened.

Both teams fought a duel without shots for half an hour.

The phrase "whoever scores the first goal today, wins the game", which was often heard before kick-off, was said more and more frequently.

From the 73rd minute, however, the sentence took on a more concerned tone, because Andreas Kostorz stomped off the field with a yellow card and from then on cheered on the team behind the boards at his own goal.

The VfB leader had to correct mistakes made by the people in front with a tactical foul, nobody could get himself sent off.

Firecracker shot short end

In the majority, the zero number wobbled on the side of the Hallbergmoos box.

The first shots were not unusual tasks for a goalkeeper like Ferdinand Kozel.

But 20 seconds before the end of regular time there was a cracking shot from a good 20 meters at the Kreuzeck, which demanded everything from him.

With that, VfB happily took the one point.

"Wipe your mouth and move on," said Hallberg's coach Matthias Strohmaier after the game, referring to one of the most classic football phrases that you take something with you from every game without conceding a goal.

And he also provided the right numbers: “VfB have conceded 51 goals in 18 games in the first half of the season and now only one in five games in the second half.

We're definitely on the right track.” In view of the 13 points conceded in the five games in the back series, the zero number against Gundelfingen is manageable.
