The Russian Federal Customs Service announced today the arrest of American basketball star Britney Greiner at the airport in the Russian capital for drug possession.
The Russian customs said in a statement today: “After a search of the handbag of an American citizen who arrived on a flight from New York last February, electronic cigarettes with a specific smell were found,” explaining that one of the experts discovered that the smell was narcotic cannabis oil.
The statement indicated that the American player faces a possible prison sentence of 5 to 10 years.
It is noteworthy that the 31-year-old Greiner has been playing with the Russian basketball club Ekaterin Borg since 2015, and she is a holder of two Olympic golds with the US team in 2016 and 2020, and she won two gold medals at the World Championships in 2014 and 2018.
